Glossary unit 1&2 (English).


 Unit 1. You are what you eat:

-Self-steem: Confidence.
-Powder: It's the ingredient that we use for  prepare for example a cake.
-Teaspoon and tablespoons: The difference between them is that the teaspoons are smaller than the  tablespoons.
-Chairperson: It's the person who manage the debate.
-Adjudicator: It's the person who decides the winner.
-Time-keeper: It's the person that control  the time.
-GE: Genetically Engineered
-GM: Genetically Modified
-GMO: Genetically Modified Organism
-Wheat: The igredient that we use to make for  example bread.
-Banned: Prohibition.
-Crop: The produce of cultivated plants.
-Factual: Realistic.
-Horoscopes: The prediction of a person's future.
-Fortune tellers: People who predict the furture,they read (more or less) the horoscopes.
-Tarot readers: People who read a kind of cards and tell you your future.
-Omission;"lying by omission": It means don't lie but don't say all the truth.

EXPRESSIONS:
1.To take the bull by the horns: Means to deal with a difficult in a brave and firm way.
2.Two heads are better than one: Means that when two people work together they are more likely to solve a problem than one person doing it alone.
3.To keep your head above water: Means you are just managing to survive despite not having much money/time/(things in general).
4.It's as easy as pie: If something is very easy.
5.Pie-eyed: If someone is very drunk.
6.To have a finger in many pies: It means you are involved in lots of different activities wide range of varieties.
7.A bad egg: In English if we want to say that someone is bad or dishonest we can call him/her a bad egg.
8.Don't pull all your eggs in one basket: You should never relyon one plan in case it goes wrong.
9.He got egg on his face: if someone makes a mistake which makes him/her look stupid,we can say this expression.
10.Breaking point: I'm a breaking point means "I need help".
11.Dropped (weight): I have lost weight.
12.Purging: When you make yourself vomit.
13.Compulsively: Once and again.
14.Follow in your footsteps: Want to be like other person.
15.Full of beans: In English if someone is full of beans means that she/he is full of energy.
16.I haven't got a bean: Means that you have not many at all.
17.Spill the beans: In English if we want to tell us something secret, we can say to them "Spill the bean".
18.It's a hot potatoe: In English, if there is a delicate issue and people can't agree we call it "a hot potatoe".
19.They're like two peas in a pod: If two people look very similar we use this expression.
20.It's not my cup of tea: It means when there's something we don't like much: a sport,a type of music,a person,... Then we use this expression.
21.I wouldn't do it for all the tea in China: We use this expression if there's something we would NEVER do it.
22.It's as good as a chocolate teapot: In English if something is completely useless we say this expression.
23.He's gone bananas: In English if someone is very emotional and starts shouting and behaving in a crazy way,we can say this expression.
24.It's a case of sour grapes: In English if somebody pretends not to be impressed by something because he/she feels jealous we use this expression.
25.A second beat of the cherry: In English if we try to do something a second time because we failed al first, we can use this expression.
26.There are planty more fish in the sea: It means that there are other choices in a situation. It is often said to comfort someone who had a romantic break-up.
27.The icing on the cake: It is used to refer to something good which is added to an already good thing or situation.
28.It's just not cricket: Is used in English to say that something is unfair or dishonest.
29.To toy with (somebody or something): Means not to take someone's feelings seriously.
30.A toy boy: Is the younger boyfriend of an older person.
31.Like a ton of bricks: It is used to express something that is very heavy.This expression can be used literally (describe a heavy weight) or idiomatically (to describe a great surprise or someone that is over weight).
32.To fly the nest: Means to leave your parents' home for the first time to go and live someone else.
33.A nest egg: Is an amount of money you have safe in the future.
34.I wasn't born yesterday: If someone is telling you a very obvious lie,you can use this expression.
35.To have a whale of a hime: Means to have a lot of fun while doing something.
36.Size of a whale: It is an impolite way of saying that one large and overweight.
37.The big cheese: Is the most important or powerful person in a group or organization.
38.Chalk and cheese: We use this expression to define two people who are very different to each other.
39.A little bird told me: If you have some information but you do not want to reveal who told you, then you use this expressions.
40.To be or to have a big mouth: It means you talk too much especially about things which should be kepst in secret or avoided.
41.All the colours of the rainbow: It means it is very colourful.
42.Chasing rainbows: Refers to someone who is always looking for something more exiciting and rewarding but it is unlikely to find it.
43.Playing with fire: You are doing something which could be dangerous.
44.Add fuel to the fire: It means you make a bad situation even worse.


Unit 2. Clean-up time


1.Soil: The top layer of the land surface of the earth.
2.Lid: A cover,usually removable or hinged for a receptacle.
3.Mine: A system of excavations made for the extraction of minerals,coal, ores,or precious stones.
4.Coal: A combustible compact black or dark-brown carbonaceous rock formed from compaction of layers of partially descomposed vegetation.
5.Cattle station: The place where the animals are.
6.Methane: Colourless odourless flammable gas.
7.Smag: It's a word formed by other two words: SMOKE + FOG.
8.Blobfish: It's a very ugly and fat fish.

EXPRESSIONS:
1.Lost for words: Means you are so shock that you cannot speak.
2.If you have a flash of inspiration it means that you get a sudden idea that help you create or achieve what you where hoping to do.
3.A big fish in a small pond: If we describe someone with this expression,it means that he/she is very important or have a lot of influence but only in a small area or group.
4.Cold fish: If someone is described with this expression it means that he/she is unfriendly and doesn't show his/her feelings or emotions.
5.Packed like sardines: To describe people in a very crowded space.
  Chock a block: Ex: The streets are CHOCK A BLOCK with cars today.
6.Like a duck to water: It means that you discover when you start doing a new activity that you are very good at it.
7.If you blow your ouw trumpet: You are boasting about your achievement and abilities.
If you have a bee in your bonet about something, you are abssessed with it and can't stop thinking about it.
8.It's in someone's genes: When that person has the same personality traits as their parents, or does a similar job.
9. You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours: Means if you do something for me I'll do something for you specially if it is something you would not have been able to do for yourself.
10.If you say someone does not have a hair out of place means that their appearance is very tidy or is perfect.
IMPORTANT:
1. Special cocktails for the ladies with nuts. Special cocktails with nuts for the ladies
2. Would you like to ride on your own ass? Would you like to ride on a donkey on your own
3. Ladies,have your clothes here and spend the afternoon having a good time.
   Ladies,have a good time this afternoon and leave your clothes here,in the laundromat.
